Filling the gaps in mental health care in sub-Saharan Africa

In many low resource countries, particularly in the aftermath of war or disaster, the ability to provide mental health care is often non existent. Sometimes, the infrastructure does not exist, or mental health has been overlooked.

So, WarTrauma Foundation, in partnership with UNHCR, started the mhGAP (mental health Global Action Programme) training cycle in sub-Saharan Africa. In Cameroon, WarTrauma Foundation provided training to clinical staff (doctors, clinical offices, nurses and midwives).

Non-clinical key staff from UNHCR and partners, including community protection staff, health outreach staff and refugee representatives received a separate training. WarTrauma Foundation will return in 2016 for another round.
