Little help meant less healing

The Ahfad University for Women (AUW) students’ mostly come from war afflicted areas, such as Sudan, Eritrea or Somalia. It is also near the largest residential area for people from Darfur and Dar Elslam refugee camp.

In the past, there was little to no psychosocial assistance available to these displaced survivors of war and violence. Partnering with AUW since 2011, WarTrauma Foundation has trained mental health professionals and psychosocial workers to support them and established effective referral and treatment for people with severe mental health problems.

Now, the first ‘Ahfad Trauma Treatment and Training Centre’ in Sudan has opened, providing training, tools, and an inter-connected network of mental health and psychosocial professionals, with expansion to community based methods.

An article in Therapy Today describes the two-year programme From Individual to Collective Healing in more detail.
