Intervention Journal: global exchange of psychosocial knowledge and experience
Intervention: the International Journal of Mental Health, Psychosocial Work and Counselling in Areas
of Armed Conflict (Intervention Journal) has been published since 2003, and is owned by the War Trauma Foundation.
Intervention Journal collects and disseminates a large diversity of information and experience in the field of psychological and psychosocial aid. Intervention Journal publishes articles that are relevant for professionals and volunteers working in areas of armed conflict, and other humanitarian emergencies, and for those working with refugees throughout the world.
Unique
Intervention Journal disseminates academic insights and international standards in psychosocial work, as well as the latest information gained from the practical experiences of fieldworkers, in the hope that both worlds will inspire and support each other. In Intervention Journal you will find: (peer reviewed) academic articles, book reviews, debates and field reports that describe concrete psychosocial projects and contain lessons that can be used by others. The journal is published in English, with summaries of the articles in Arabic, French, Russian, Pashto, Sinhala, Spanish and Tamil.
Next to Intervention Journal, WTF also publishes Educational Materials under the name ‘Intervention Manuals’. For more information, please see the section Intervention Manuals in the main menu of the website.
Production and distribution
Since 2006, Wolters Kluwer/Lippincott, Williams & Wilkins in London have covered the costs of printing and distribution, as a donation to the WTF. Intervention Journal is distributed to paying subscribers and (free of charge) to hundreds of aid centres and local organisations in low and middle income countries. As a result of the journal being added to the Lippincott package of psychiatry and psychology journals, it is now available online in more than 1300 academic libraries and research centres the world over. The World Health Organisation (WHO) includes the journal in their own HINARI initiative; providing free access to medical journals for research centres in low and middle income countries throughout the world.
Intervention Journal is published three times per year. Editor-in-chief is Peter Ventevogel, MD, MA, intervention@wartrauma.nl. Intervention Journal and Intervention Manuals are published with the financial support of Cordaid and HealthNet TPO, and a Dutch private wealth fund. For special issues, the journal has received financial support from a variety of international organisations, such as UNICEF, UNHCR and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
