Bringing knowledge and relief to those who provide help and relief

In 2015, approximately 400,000 refugees arrived in Greece from over the sea. Most of them fleeing severe violence and death at home – only to face the dangers of the sea and potentially further loss and grief.

Everyday Coast guard, police, UNHCR staff and other aid workers are confronted with thousands of distressed refugees and shipwreck survivors, burdened with the huge demand for psychological support. At the request of the UNHCR, WarTrauma Foundation provides local aid workers in Greece with essential psychosocial first aid training, and the tools to cope with refugees, as well as maintaining their own mental health and wellbeing.
